This guide reviews literature and research findings related to telehealth modalities, examines emerging and best practices, discusses gaps in knowledge, and identifies challenges and strategies for implementation.

Course Objectives

  1. Examine the literature on the effectiveness of telehealth services and its potential to address treatment gaps, making treatment services more accessible and improving health outcomes.
  2. Distill the research into recommendations for best practices to discuss with other agencies or organizations for a stronger, collaborative approach to the prevention of substance use and improving mental health outcomes.
  3. Identify person-centered considerations and strategies across the interpersonal client-provider relationship, the organization, and the policy/regulatory landscape for successful implementations of telehealth services.
  4. Educate healthcare professionals to be comfortable and knowledgeable about the technology used and provide additional training to increase digital literacy.
  5. Build therapeutic client-provider relationships to develop special considerations for people with hearing impairments, and disabilities, requiring language translations or training to use telehealth services.
  6. Monitor implemented systems to evaluate individual progress, address digital system issues, and make necessary adjustments for better client health outcomes.<br />
