This report was prepared for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to disseminate information on telehealth evidence-based practices and service delivery models to prevent substance misuse and help with substance use disorders (SUDs), serious mental illness (SMI) and serious emotional disturbances (SEDs). This guide reviews literature and research findings related to telehealth modalities, examines emerging and best practices, discusses gaps in knowledge, and identifies challenges and strategies for implementation.

Course Objectives
- Examine the literature on the effectiveness of telehealth services and its potential to address treatment gaps, making treatment services more accessible and improving health outcomes.

- Educate healthcare professionals to be comfortable and knowledgeable about the technology used and provide additional training to increase digital literacy.
- Build therapeutic client-provider relationships to develop special considerations for people with hearing impairments, and disabilities, requiring language translations or training to use telehealth services.
